Spring Break Recap: Sarasota, Florida

Happy Sunday! There is officially one more day of spring break left. Technically spring break should be over but tomorrow is a teacher work day. Almost time to get back to our usual routine. I can't imagine it should be that hard this time around waking up early, because these kids have been waking up early every day! Serena can sleep in, but the other 3 have been ready to go around 7 am every day. I've been going to sleep late too because my husband got me into watching Narcos on Netflix. It's so good! Some scenes are tough to watch but the story line is so good.

We had talked about going to Sarasota for a couple days for spring break about a month ago, but hadn't decided on anything. Last Sunday morning, Hank sprung it on me that we should go that same day. We waffled for a bit with either doing Naples, or Tampa, but settled on Sarasota. It's only about a 3 hour drive from Boca so not too much of a long drive for the kids. Because it was such short notice, we literally booked the hotel on the way up there. The weather was great while we were there, and we all had a good time even though we just sort of winged it without a plan or even deciding early on where to eat. We stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in the arts district. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were clean and the heated pool had a great view!

On our first day there we drove over to where the opera house was along the water and just explored. We noticed that Lion King was there and had a showing that was going to start in an hour, but it was too late to get tickets and there were no cancellations. We noticed two men that were stretching nearby and were wearing matching t-shirts. They looked like they might be in the show so I decided to ask them if they were, and if they knew how to get any last minute tickets. One of the men was actually Simba in the show! Still we weren't able to secure tickets. They mentioned that in some cases 30 minutes before the show a person might try to sell a ticket if their companion doesn't show up, but trying to secure 6 last minute tickets was going to be really difficult. So no Lion King for us, but it was still neat to have run into a cast member. We also explored the area by Mote Marine Laboratory which has a neat little park and nature walk area, and then drove through St. Armands Circle before going to downtown to find a restaurant.

On our second day we ate breakfast at the hotel and then headed to The Ringling. It was beautiful and on the grounds they have a very fun park for the kids and a few flower gardens. Every Monday the museum of art including special exhibition galleries are free to the public. Regular admission pricing applies if you wish to visit the circus museum or Ca'd'Zan.

 After the museum we headed to Siesta key beach, but just to walk in the sand since it was still a bit chilly and the water was cold. The sand was so clean and amazingly soft! Ava said it felt like flour.

After the beach we had a very late lunch/early dinner at a local seafood place and then stopped for ice cream at Crystal cream rolls in the nearby town Osprey. The girls and Hank loved it! I unfortunately couldn't eat it because I'm dairy sensitive, but I did have some of the toppings like a marshmallow and graham cracker.

All in all we had a great time. Going on a trip without a plan is completely doable because we are still all together, and I know it sounds cheesy but we can have fun anywhere. Lately I feel like I'm really cherishing our family outings more than ever, because in two more years Serena will be done with high school and she may not be living at home if she decides to go away for college. It all just goes by too fast, and I'm hanging onto these moments where my 4 are still under the same roof.

Life Lately....again

Soooo...looks like the last time I updated was when school started. Silly me. I don't know why I thought things were going to get easier and more relaxed with 2 out of 4 in school again. Quite the opposite. I think it's gotten busier, less stress then with all 4 kids at home during the summer, but busier. I love it though and I plan on getting back to blogging 2-3 times a week again.

In the past few weeks, I joined the Junior League (which I'm super excited about and will go into detail later), the school advisory council for Layla's school and the PTA. Meetings, school functions, play dates, my business and 4 girls, well you can imagine that it's been go, go, go. The past weekends we've kept it pretty low key as we try to reel down from the busy week and still sleep deprived. A beach outing here, a pool outing there, baking, church, walks, grocery shopping, etc.

Oh I almost forgot to mention I've been home schooling Mariam who is 3 as well. She'll be 4 in November so with a late birthday, she misses the cutoff age to enter pre-school this year which means she doesn't get to start till next year. I want her to have a head start so we've been doing school in the mornings, broken up since I still have Ava to tend too. So far it's been working out well and I've noticed it's been helping her temperment too. She's very strong willed and challenging to put it nicely, but she can also be very sweet and she's pretty articulate for her age.

Happy Labor Day!

School days!

My first born started 8th grade on Monday! Omg. It's hard to believe she'll be in high school next year! Layla also started kindergarten yesterday. She did great and she loved it! Her school does a staggered start so she had no school today, but she'll be back tomorrow. So now it will just me Mariam and Ava home with me. Yesterday was our first day back with this arrangement and I'd like to say the day was easier, but it wasn't. Ava hardly napped and I had to fight Mariam to get in the car to pick up Layla. One day it will be more quiet and I'll be less stressed, but I know by then I'll be missing the kids when they were small.

Halloween in Florida

 This Halloween was our first in Florida and as expected, it was hot. Since we are in a condo this year there was no door to door trick or treating, but we did take the girls to "Spookyville" in Palm Beach which was pretty fun. They were able to go from cottage to cottage trick or treating and they had a blast. After awhile though they were ready to go home and start in on their sweets.

Now please excuse me as I go steal one of their chocolates. ;)

Have a great Monday.

Beach babe

These days I hardly spend on myself. When you have 3 girls and one on the way most of the fun money tends to go towards them and I'm ok with that. Another thing is, I'm really really picky! I can walk into a mall easily and come out with nothing.

On Monday I ordered this adorable bathing suit from Forever 21 after trying on the bottoms in store Friday night. As with all my other pregnancies my bottom starts growing in the second trimester. I normally wear smalls but I have to size up to mediums now. My bikinis are getting too small and since we are at the beach at least every other weekend, I definitely need something I'm comfortable in. Hopefully the top fits ok because I didn't see it in store.

I have a bikini from Forever21 and I've been pleased with the quality so I don't think there will be an issue. This is the one I currently have but in mint,

I also bought this gorgeous white chiffon dress from Sheinside.com. I've never purchased anything from this site before but it reminds me of Forever21. I don't remember who I saw wearing this dress, but I saw it on Instagram a week ago and knew I had to have it. I love maxi dresses! Especially while pregnant. I'm thinking of doing some maternity photos in this dress.

Have a great Wednesday!

We are having a.......

baby girl!!

I know almost everyone thought....or hoped that it would be a boy, but it looks like we are just destined to have a house full of girls. We are happy with whatever we are blessed with.

When we went for our ultrasound the little lady didn't want to cooperate and for a few seconds we were thinking boy because we saw something, but we ended up getting a clear picture that it is in fact a girl. We also get to have another more in depth ultrasound next week and hopefully I'll get some pictures this time.

This past weekend the family and I went to Mounts Botanical Gardens in West Palm Beach and took some pictures to share with our family and friends. The park is a hidden gem and Saturday was just beautiful outside. The beautiful balloon tassel was provided by Love Pretty Details and I absolutely loved it! The tissue garland was already assembled and all I had to do was tie it on the balloon after I had it blown up with helium. So easy and so fun! I made the mistake of not putting enough helium in the balloon since it's supposed to be bigger, but it still came out great. Take a look at their shop for gorgeous handmade party decor.

Excited to add another little girl to this bunch!

Spring Break Recap {Lion Country Safari}

Last post about spring break. Promise! Another fun thing we did was drive out to Lion Country Safari. The girls really enjoyed it. Upon arriving you go through the drive-thru safari first. I was a little disappointed that you don't actually get to feed the animals from your car and there aren't many lions. The ones that were there just sat around behind fences and the lion area was small. Once we finished the safari I felt that the price was high per person if that's all you got, but the rest of the park definitely makes up for it and was worth it.

After the safari, we parked, changed Mariam's diaper, sun screened everybody and headed into the park. All the rides, paddle boats, boat rides, activities and water park are included. We didn't check out their on site restaurant, but we did snack on pizza, icees and funnel cakes. Not healthy, but hey we all have days like this. Mariam did really well and only wanted to be carried 15% of the time which was a win in our book. We spent the whole day there and by the time we left we were pooped. The girls fell asleep as soon as they got in their car seats and slept all the way home. The park is only 35 minutes away from us so I definitely want to go back sometime.

Spring Break Recap {West Palm Beach}

Last week was Serena's spring break so my husband also took the week off work. My best friend and her family happened to be going to Orlando, Florida for their spring break so they stopped by Boca and stayed with us for 3 days. It was so nice to see our friends again. While they were here we went to Key Biscayne, Miami and our local beach. After they left we took a couple days to just clean up and hang around the house and then went to West Palm Beach for a day.

West Palm Beach is only 25 minutes away. Honestly I was expecting a bit more from the city. Their downtown area looked like there wasn't much going on and there were a lot of available store fronts. I did see a lot of new construction so it looks like it's a work in progress. We did drive by some of their nicer neighborhoods and there was a lovely area full of high ends shops and restaurants. So far based on the cities we've visited surrounding ours, I've noticed that Boca is by far the nicest. It's beautiful and safe. The streets are kept clean and the landscaping is always immaculate. Definitely loving being here.

Have a great Wednesday!
