It's been 84 years....

Said in my best Rose Dewitt from Titanic voice....

That's how long it feels that it's going to take me to finish this french provincial dresser!

It's coming along though. Hurricane Harvey had me putting it on the back burner and shortly after H and Ava got back, Hurricane Irma was on the way, so again it was put on the back burner. The kids were off school for a week and a half and they just went back yesterday. This weekend I started the project back up again. I'd say it's about 75% done. I'm hoping sometime by next week it will be complete. I'm really getting so sick of Layla and Mariam pulling their clothes out of their closet shelves every day! It's a huge mess. Sometimes I just put them back for them so it can be done a little neater or else they'll just shove all the clothes back in there.

Currently I am doing the drawers and then I have to go back and touch up any places the gold paint spilled over on the white. Also have to spray paint the hardware gold. The girls wanted to help a bit. I didn't let them sand really. They just gently went over a few drawers with a sanding sponge that's already worn down. Not sure how old the original paint is and what it has in it.

When all is said and done, I'll be doing a full post with the complete and detailed process and letting you know the mistakes I made and any new tricks I picked up,

Oh! I forgot to mention before, that the dresser came with a mirror! I'm not attaching it to the dresser though. Rather I decided to hang it in the breakfast nook. I really agonized painting over the original gold detailing, but I was not trying to spend another 84 years trying to redo it all! It turned out great all white.

Home Update!

Two week's ago marked our one year anniversary of moving into our home in Boca Raton. I've absolutely loved living here this past year and it's been fun working on projects and fixing up this 1979 house. I'm picky and a perfectionist, so we still have a long way to go decor wise, but we're slowly making more progress these days. There is beauty in everything and though this house was mostly original with horrible carpet, blinds, etc, we saw the potential. Before we moved in, my husband, my brother, and my dad painted pretty much the whole house, put down the floors and worked on various things. We definitely had our work cut out for us and even Serena helped with the wainscotting in the living and dining room.

We still need to get rid of that chandelier over the dining room table and put in rugs, a coffee table, a couple end tables and maybe another chair, but H really wants a recliner. Such a guy! The problem with recliners is the most comfortable ones (which he's looking for) are....how do I say this nicely. Not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The nicer ones aren't that comfortable. We'll see. I'm sure I'm going to have to meet him in the middle since he's gone along with the rest of my ideas.

Settling in...

Today is the first Monday at the new house where it's just Mariam and Ava with me. H is back at work after a 2 week vacation and Layla and Serena are at school now. The house is nice and quiet at the moment and it's nice. I'm loving it here! My stress level has gone down considerably in these last two weeks. We also had friends come in from Houston and stay for 3 days and it was fun. Gave us a much needed break. We ate out a lot, went to Palm Beach, took the kids to the zoo, saw some sights. 

Today I plan on unpacking the rest of the girls clothes, tackling a few boxes in my room and working on my business. I've got to plan my calendar and get some sewing done. We still have a lot to do in the house and we've got a mountain full of boxes in the Florida room. Slowly but surely...

New baby...new year...new house

Friday we closed on our new home in Boca! Beautiful quiet neighborhood, spacious and about 4 miles from the beach. Doing some renovations first and moving in 9 days! There's still a lot to be done. We have to finish taking out the baseboards, paint the interior, add wainscoting in the living room/dining room, lay the floors, pack up our condo and move in all by the 29th. Eeek! My brother arrives tomorrow night to help H, and my dad should be here on Thursday so we'll have more help. Hopefully it all gets done. We are cutting it so close but we hit the ground running as soon as we got the keys and it's been a lot of fun so far!

Wall Decor with Tiny Prints

Last year I wrote a post here about all the gorgeous new home decor, stationary and gifts Tiny prints has to offer now and I didn't have a chance to follow up on Serena's updated room. I recently did a first home tour the week before so I won't post all the room pictures again, but I will share a gorgeous print from Tiny Prints. 

It was a great addition to her room and one of my all time favorite pictures that I took of Serena. The picture was taken for one of the hair accessories that I feature in my shop. I was very impressed with the quality of the mounted picture. There's no glass on it so I don't have to worry about it falling and breaking. It's also very sturdy and has holes in the back for easy mounting on the wall.

{Home Series} First Home Tour Part 2

If you're just joining in, yesterday I posted the exterior and downstairs of our first home in Houston. Today I'm continuing with the upstairs. I wasn't crazy about the grandma looking floral carpet, but it was new upon move in and H didn't want to rip it out and change it. 

There were 3 bedrooms upstairs, a washer and dryer and 2 full baths. The rooms were on the small side but still ample space for us. One thing I don't miss is the squeaky floors. I had to be like a ninja sometimes trying to leave a room after putting the girls down for a nap or bedtime.

The nursery was my favorite room in the house. When we first moved in, we were approaching the second year of trying to conceive our second baby. I purposely kept the room empty until I got pregnant. I remember I used to sit in there and pray, sometimes cry after I miscarried in 2009.  Decorating the room throughout our years there as our family grew is something I will never forget.

{Home Series} First Home Tour Part 1

Happy Tuesday! I know it's been a good 1 to 2 weeks since I've blogged. It's just been so hard lately with the way I've been feeling, keeping up with 3 girls and running a business. I am really going to make it a point to keep blogging regularly. I love having an outlet to get some of my thoughts out and share what I know and love. 

I've had several people ask in the past to do a house tour and I just never got around to it. When we were getting our house in Houston ready to sell, I took all the pictures that were used on the listing, so I have plenty of pictures to share now. Just to give a little background in case you missed the announcement. We moved from Houston to Boca last month. My husband was transferred for work and we only had a month and a half to sell our house and find another one in Florida. We are currently renting a condo so we can get to know the area. We are loving Boca, but we aren't used to renting. It's not ours and doesn't feel like home. I miss all the natural light we used to get in our first home, I miss the space, a backyard, and being able to decorate. Other than new sheets and little small things, I have not bought any new decor nor do I plan too until we are in our own home later this year when our lease is up. I seriously cannot wait! 

When we were first looking for our home in Houston, I wasn't crazy about it at first, but it quickly grew on me. I loved the Victorian style, the stained glass windows and all the unique features it had. It really was gorgeous and while I wish I could have done more projects, you know how life goes. There was pregnancies and new babies and life just happened. I will forever cherish all the memories we had in our first home.

The backyard was constantly a work in progress, but most of the time it was neglected. We did a lot of work in the beginning, but with my husband's work schedule and commute, it just didn't leave a lot of time for him to spend on it. When we first bought it, there was bamboo EVERYWHERE! There was so much it had pushed the fence out on one part and we had to take out all the bamboo and have the fence replaced. What I loved about the backyard was the deck (great for parties!) and the built in cooling mist. Truth be told we hardly ever used the mist though. 

Let's move on to the inside. I really loved the floor to ceiling windows throughout the whole downstairs and while I wasn't a fan of our out dated kitchen, I did love the natural light and looking outside during meals. Of course I always wondered if our neighbors across the street could see in into our kitchen through their upstairs. I could see a little into their upstairs bedrooms at night so I'm guessing the answer is yes. Oops! Because there was quite a few times I'd forget and walk in the kitchen at night to get some water in a little nightgown. 

The work we did do downstairs while living there was strip, sand and paint the front door, paint the living room, tear down the wallpaper in the kitchen, and replace the floor with marble. The kitchen was another one of those unfinished projects.

That concludes the downstairs. Not pictured was a small hallway between the kitchen and the dining room where the half bathroom was. Check back tomorrow for a tour of the upstairs.
