A sweet 16th birthday with Basic Invite!

With all that's been going on, I haven't posted about my first born turning 16! I must admit I would find myself feeling teary the days leading up to her birthday. It's not just that she was turning another year older, but also what the past years signified for me. Having been pregnant with Serena at 19, I was never an adult without her. She made me a mom. Several big milestones one completes as an adult--she was with me every step of the way.

Even now just writing this, I can feel that familiar lump in my throat. My baby girl is 16. She has a huge heart and makes the world a better place with her presence in it. She's also beautiful and so smart, but entirely too humble to say nice things about herself. Instead of always hanging out with friends, she chooses to be an asset in her community by spending several hours volunteering every week without fail. Serena is one in a million, and she makes us so proud!

A few weeks before her birthday Basic Invite reached out to me about collaborating and I'm so glad I did! Serena and I both enjoyed scrolling through all the party invitations online and she picked the one that best represented her.

She wanted to do a small slumber party with some of her closest friends and it really turned out so cute and charming.

Obviously the first step in planning a party is a theme or color scheme. After that, you settle on an invitation. Basic Invite was very user friendly and the whole process was simple and fast.

♪ It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....♪

Hello everybody! Miss me?

No? Not really?

Who do I think I am? Ha-ha!

I hope everybody enjoyed their Thanksgiving. We had 5 of my in-laws fly in from Texas and stay for a week, and it was really nice. Not going to lie I was stressing leading up to their visit because I had to get the house ready and meal plan. You know how it is when people are visiting your house for the first time. You go all crazy sprucing it up and making it look like nobody lives there. I was also nervous about cooking for 11 people, but turns out when you're already cooking for 6, what's 5 more!

We had a lot of fun though, and the next day after they left, I certainly missed them. We'll hopefully be seeing our Texas family 6 months from now.  So with Thanksgiving behind us, Christmas 2018 is now upon us. Does anyone else feel like Christmas 2017 was just a few months ago?! Like wow! The years are going faster and faster!

We bought our tree on Saturday, and I bought a few more Christmas decorations yesterday. I like how everything came out. My new tree skirt is now soaking up the water from the bowl in the stand holding up the tree, and it's a bit sideways like the leaning tower of pisa, but that's ok, I'll take care of that later.

Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Mariam!

Remember, remember the 5th of November......

Every year on her birthday when I think of November 5th, I can't help but quote "V for Vendetta". Haha! If you've seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about when I start with "remember, remember the 5th of November.

Hurricane Mariam turns 6 today! If you're wondering why I call her hurricane Mariam, feel free to reference this post...and this one where I followed up. Spoiler alert....she's still a crier, but it's definitely gotten a little easier over the years. Her temperament and unreasonableness are still there, but a sweet Mariam also emerged a couple years ago. She loves to help me bake, she loves being the center of attention, and especially loves to dance. If she hears the beat, expect that she'll be dancing very soon. Mariam is our most feisty daughter and we couldn't imagine life without her.
