Big girl room update (Wallternatives Review)

Back when I was updating the nursery, I raved several times about Royal Design Studio Stencils. They are a great company with a great product, and I am still absolutely amazed at how stenciling one wall in the nursery transformed it into the gorgeous and unique nursery I always dreamed about!

This past May they launched a new sister company called Wallternatives™ in which they offer an artful alternative to ordinary walls. Their products include: Designer Vinyl Decals, WallPrints Fabric Decals, WallAppeal Removable Wallpaper, EtchLook, and ChalkTalk.

After I finished the nursery, (see Royal Design Studio Stencil Review here and the nursery final reveal here,) I moved onto Serena's room to redecorate. When I heard Royal Design Studio had launched Wallternatives, I knew I had to try out some vinyl decals after browsing at what they had to offer and falling in love with most of their patterns. I'm also not going to be doing any painting in her room so decals are a perfect alternative! Serena selected the stars vinyl pattern in metallic silver and Wallternatives was kind enough to send over a couple packs for us to try.

The day after we got them, we were eager to get started right away. I knew where I wanted to put them, but I wasn't sure what design to use. After conferring with Serena and my mom I made up my mind and started placing them on the sides of the biggest wall in the room. They are seriously so easy to put on and reposition if you need to. I did not have to prep the walls so all I had to do was peel off and stick, peel off and stick. So, so easy. When I work on a project I never really use precise measurements. I'm a bit impatient and I'm really good at picking things up and eyeballing things so I patterned the stars on one side of the wall and then just made the same on the other wall. I love the way the wall looks now! I'm probably going to switch out the clock for a big picture or print and I may change up the nightstand décor, but stay tuned for more fun updates with the rest of the room.

Have a great Monday!

Big girl room Update

Now that I've finished redecorating the nursery I'm now moving onto Serena's room. Her furniture is white and the walls are a very pale green. I'm not crazy about the wall color but I have no intention of changing it. It would be too much of a hassle and I'm just not in the mood to take on a paint job or have someone else do it and have the furniture moved out and all that jazz.

In my plans for the room I envisioned a white or floral bedspread and go with a garden theme, but those plans completely went out the door when Serena spotted a turquoise ruched comforter on a recent Target trip. Turquoise is her favorite color so here is where I had to let go of the reigns and go for it. A lot of times I persuade her towards something else when she makes a less than favorable fashion choice, but I have to give in sometimes and the comforter is cute so I put it in my cart. I do feel that the color clashes a little with the wall but we'll just make it work. I'm not sure what other colors to incorporate at this point, but I will be adding touches of silver. Serena has had her eye on the "sweet" silver sequin pillow that's available in my shop and it went perfect with her comforter.

All in all there isn't a lot I need to add to the room, but I'd like to get a cute accent rug, A picture to hang above her dresser, some accent pieces to display on her dresser and nightstand, and I have my eye on a wall decal for the biggest wall in her room.

Have a great weekend!

Nursery Reveal!

At the beginning of the year, I decided that I wanted to update the nursery. My primary focus was adding in chic décor and delicate details to transform it into a sweet and elegant nursery. The nursery is my favorite room in the house with it's cathedral ceiling and stained glass windows. The girls and I spend a lot of time in there reading, playing, or just laying on our backs, staring at the light beaming through the windows and daydreaming.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of pink and elegant details. I didn't turn to magazines, books, or other nurseries for inspiration. Instead I gained inspiration from gorgeous décor I came across on One Kings Lane and from various small shops. One Kings Lane is a destination where one can shop, get inspired with their home decor handbook, and find your favorite home and lifestyle brands. You can tell they put a lot of thought into handpicking only the finest items for your home and I just love the scenes they set up to display some of their wares.

Let's get onto the pictures!

I truly love the way the room came out and along the way I made some new friends, got to spend some time with my older brother who painted the wall (post here), and discovered that I wanted to move FHJ Baby nursery décor up ahead in production. The gorgeous sequin script pillow and wooden love sign will be a couple of the items available soon along with other decorative pillows, décor, and changing pad covers to start out with.

The bow window valance, faux fur rug, gold heart picture, wood love script and sequin script pillow were designed or made by me and it was also fun getting to know a few other shops that helped contribute into turning it into my dream nursery.

Here are the shops I worked with that provided some of the key elements that transformed the room:

Gold sequin hanger: c/o Oh Deer Ceative Shop
Damask stencil for wall: c/o Royal Design Studio Stencils
XOXO gold foil print: Collectivity Lane
Dream Big gold foil print: Abby & Grace
Pink satin rose ball in urn: Hobby Lobby
Clothes stand for ballet tutu: Ikea

There are so many other big retailers such as Target, Hancocks, Walmart, and Babies R us that I bought items for and I plan on doing another post sourcing everything and giving the breakdown on how I was able to bring this room together on a budget.

Have a great weekend!

Must Have {Ikea NÄPEN Clothes Stand}

Last week I took Layla and Mariam to Ikea during the day to look around and it actually went really well. I was even able to let Mariam out of the Babyhawk and Layla out of her stroller and they behaved like civilized human beings. Even lunch there went without a hitch! While I was there, I spotted a clothes stand in the children's section. They only had the display and weren't going to have anymore in stock till this week, so I decided to take my chance again and made another trip there yesterday with Layla and Mariam. I was able to get the stand, but sweet mother of God did the girls give me a hard time! Halfway through the store I practically had to carry Layla out of the store and through the parking lot screeching and even Mariam gave me a hard time. I swear by the time I got behind the steering wheel my heart was pounding from the adrenaline of being so worked up.

That is the last time I'm taking them on my own. Just so we're clear.

Oi Vey, anyways let's talk about this ridiculously cute and cheap clothes stand. For only $14.99 it's absolutely fabulous for hanging your favorite dress, a children's tutu, or any outfit really. I specifically bought it for the nursery, but now I want one for my room. I know Serena is going to want one too. This my friends is where having girls....and being a girl can get expensive.

The stand comes with instructions and it's so easy and adjustable. I believe the tallest it gets is around 4.8" tall.

Have a great Wednesday!
